Drones are helpful in identifying potential hazards as well as locating existing structural damages prior to actual in-situ inspections. In general, the utilization of drones in line, pole and tower inspections may pose significant improvements to the economic and socio-psychological aspects of the procedure which includes personnel safety, time, and data accuracy.

FILGEO provided its services to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to introduce to them the benefits of using drones for inspection.

Four types of inspections were implemented in this project – line inspection, pole inspection, tower inspection and ROW inspection. Line, Pole and Tower Inspection included thermal inspection while ROW Inspection primarily focused on aerial survey and mapping. WIRIS 640 sensor mounted on our DJI Matrice 600 Pro (M600) was used for the thermal mapping and WIRIS 600 sensor was used to capture video and still images of tower components. Aerial survey and mapping were also done using a DJI Inspire 2 UAV for the La Trinidad-Calot 69kV Transmission Line. Output for this survey include production of Orthophoto maps, Elevation Models and Profiles for the given alignments.
